From an early age my interests have been split between the sciences and the arts. While attending the Ontario College of Art, I discovered the Biomedical Communications Program at the University of Toronto, a unique interdisciplinary program that explores the use of images to communicate complex science and health topics to a range of audiences. This proved to be the perfect path for me, allowing me the opportunity to pursue both of my interests. During the first few years of my career as a medical illustrator, I collaborated with a number of publishers and advertising agencies in Canada and the United States. I have been fortunate to have my medical illustrations grace the covers and pages of publications around the world.
Throughout my career, I have always enjoyed painting and drawing organic forms, such as plants and animals. Now that I have relocated to the east coast of Canada, I have been able to spend more time painting and I have found a great deal of fulfillment painting pet portraits. My dogs have always been a very important part of our family and I know that many people love and appreciate these family members as much as I do. Painting them gives me the opportunity to capture their essence on canvas to be cherished and remembered.
I am available for commissioned paintings. Paintings can be shipped to most locations. I can work from photos, which I work with in photoshop to create the desired image. Once the image is approved, I can get started with the original painting. For fun, the paintings can be adapted to pillows. mugs, T-shirts etc. The cost depends on complexity and size of the painting.
Please send me an email and I can answer any questions you may have.
Cheers,
Elise
Lythy:
Hi, I’m Lythy, and I have a passion for card making.
I see them as mini pieces of art. Over many years I have collected different types of ephemera that I now use when I create my cards. Silks from Hong Kong and Singapore. Lace and linens from antique fairs and estate sales that I’ve visited in several countries. Jewelry and beads from various decades.
I have quite the assortment of old ledgers and letters, some of them two hundred years old! Pages from old books that people have discarded get repurposed in my pieces. I enjoy painting my own papers and eco dyeing fabric and paper using avocado, beets, blueberries, tea and coffee, to name a few. Modern items are used and I merge them with the myriad of ephemera in my collection. In the last few years I have enjoyed learning to embroider and I love to ‘slow stitch’ and add small pieces to my cards. Or quilt bigger scraps and make them the focal point.
If you purchase one for yourself, you could frame your one of a kind card as art for a long time.
Vince Morash:
Is an artist, singer songwriter, actor, poet and aspiring writer who now resides in Western Shore, Nova Scotia, with his partner Pixie Currie.
Though starting out as a fisherman on this coast, his early travels out west have had him working at a pulp mill, open pit mine, driving a bus, heavy equipment operator, crab fishing, newspaper sports editor, heavy duty mechanic, settling into a career in retail sales.
Retired in July 2017, he is now devoting much of his time to artistic expressions, like his painting and to his love for music. He sings with the sea shanty group, The Dory Bungholes and folk group, Put the Kettle On. He has acted with both Dartmouth Players and South Shore Players and if another role comes along… “Well, you just never know….”
Vince’s relationship with the ocean was formulated when he was growing up in Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia. He paints this relationship in colored pencil, pen and ink and water colours, in both vibrant and muted shades, capturing the complexities of the coastal fishing village, iconic throughout Nova Scotia. Lighthouses, boats, craggy rocks and the trappings of this way of life are the basis for his art, but a closer look will often reveal hidden “shades” and silhouettes, adding commentary on the challenges the fishing way of life has faced ov erhte years. His years spent in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, have also shaped his artistic view and you can often see the influence of First Nations artists in his work.
Vince acknowledges the contributions of William DeGarthe, who lived in Peggy’s Cove when Vince was growint up and encouraged him to draw; his art instructor in Prince Rupert, and the late Dahlov Ipcar (Maine). All three have shaped his art in unexpected ways; how he approaches the subject, the use of colour and form, and in seeing the unlimited possibility within. His art can amuse, befuddle or even challenge the senses.
Zahra:
Nestled in the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Zahra is surrounded by inspiration for artistic expression. She uses a range of colors using different mediums to capture the feeling the piece communicates for her. The past few years she has applied herself into honing her skills with countless hours of sketching & tutorials. As a result, her passion to grow as an artist continues to rise and she shows incredible talent at such a young age.
Her favorite mediums to work with are acrylic, water colors, and pencils. She particularly finds inspiration in people and in the beauty of nature that surrounds her. This spring, along with other local students, two of her pieces were selected to be displayed in the Desbersay Museum in Bridgewater.
Painting is Zahra's happy place. It's in these moments time stops, ideas flow, and the brush glides across the canvas creating and recreating ideas and feelings that capture her heart and soul.
